Renukaji best time to visit
Renuka is seen as an ideal hill resort which experiences very pleasant weather during the summer. Though the temperatures often drop drastically during winter, it is not very uncomfortable. Since it is both a place of great natural beauty and religious significance for Hindus, it attracts a large number of tourists throughout the year. The months between April and October are usually the best time of the year to visit the place since the weather is quite pleasant.
If you are interested in the religious importance of the Renuka Lake, you should visit the place during the month of November, after Diwali, when the annual Renuka fair is held. According to legend, Renuka was the wife of the sage Jamadagini, who got angry with her once over her failure to fetch water for him and ordered his son Parashurama to kill his mother (One of the many versions of the story). Parashurama, who is considered to be one of the incarnations of Lord Vishnu, obeyed the wishes of his father. Jamadagini, pleased by the obedience of his son, granted him a boonand Parashurama asked his father to bring his mother Renukaback to life. It is believed that the lake Renuka was formed in the aftermath of this incident and was surrounded by golden fields of corn. To honour this occasion, every year a festival is held in which the immortality of the mother Renuka and her son Parashuram is celebrated. It is a colourful, week-long festival in which cultural programmes, folk dances, and processions carrying the idols of Parashurama in decorated palanquins take place. Many tourists visit this festival and take part in it, and worship at the temples and take a dip in the holy water of the lake just like the local people. It is a time of great festivity and symbolic meaning and should not be missed if you are visiting Renuka during that time.
